SYNOPSIS

Deborah Hauptmann is Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture at Iowa State University. Prior to her move to ISU in 2013, Hauptmann was the Director of the Delft School of Design (DSD) – an internationally recognized platform for research and advanced education – at the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. As exemplified in her edited volume Cognitive Architecture: From Biopolitics to Noopolitics: Architecture and Mind in the Age of Information and Communication, Hauptmann’s research draws on a transdisciplinary approach to architecture, which includes the disciplines of philosophy, cultural & media studies, the social sciences and the neurosciences. Hauptmann is a Bergson scholar; she lectures and moderates internationally.
